Last week at American Society of Plastic Surgeons, I videotaped a 2 hour interview with Joan Kron, Editor at Large for Allure Magazine. She has been recognized for many years for her excellent and supportive reporting about plastic surgery patients and about our specialty. Her current project is an independent documentary on plastic surgery not connected with Allure Magazine. Joan has such a breadth of knowledge and interest in plastic surgery patients, technique, and history that it was a pleasure to talk to her. We discussed the connections between appearance and self-esteem, factors that influence body image, “ethnic” rhinoplasty, and patient personality types, and what makes some patients unhappy. The latter has been a research area of mine for many years. Her documentary is currently in process and I will be very excited to see it.
